LUKAY, the new “Canadian Sensation” is a pop/R&B/house recording artist, who is also a gifted songwriter/producer/musician/dancer. Signed to Chozen Stars Records and distributed by Awesome/EMI Music Canada, Lukay’s hit single “I’m In Love With Music” was released in July 2011 and reached Top 10 BDS for ten consecutive weeks. The Canadian Billboard Charts and Socan P&M “Paroles & Musique” magazine both featured Lukay’s success in their respective magazines. Approached by Warner Music Canada to work on Canadian artist Victoria Duffield’s single “Shut Up And Dance” French version, Lukay, also known as the “Hit-Mayka,” once more reached Top 10 BDS, specifically #1 on the BDS Chart with “Shut Up And Dance” v.f. Lukay’s success attracted many well-known artists in the industry such as Lil Jon with whom Lukay has recently worked on two projects. In the near future, you will hear Lukay’s new single and several of his collaborations everywhere around the world.
Since a young age, Lukay’s father, who was the church choir maestro at the local church, exposed him to music. At 10 years old, Lukay taught himself to play the bass guitar and at 14, he was named
“Music Director” of his church band. During high school, Lukay discovered a variety of music styles, such as pop, R&B, and soul. Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, and Brandy are amongst the artists who inspired him, as well as artists from the 60s to the 90s. At 16, after not making the cut of his high school basketball team, Lukay decided to go back to his first love…music!
In 2002, Lukay performed at the annual “Youth Festival of Montreal,” an event meant to reach out to teenagers and encourage them to get involved in activities within the community. Different artists, bands, dancers, and choirs partake in this wonderful event to put on a show for a great cause.
In 2006, Lukay joined an R&B group where he developed his vocal skills and his abilities as a songwriter and producer. The brain behind this project was Johnny Wright, a legendary music manager who managed some of the most successful solo acts and groups of all time including Janet Jackson, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, ‘Nsync, and a solo Justin Timberlake. However, the project never surfaced and the group split due to some unfortunate events. After performing around Montreal and the U.S., Lukay decided to focus on songwriting. He wrote songs for artists such as Karl Wolf and had the privilege to work with Grammy Award winning producers Dark Child and Will Baker. In April 2010, Lukay’s composition “Yalla Habibi” that he wrote for Karl Wolf was certified Gold and he received a Gold plaque by EMI Music Canada for his success. Another hit, “80’s Baby,” that he wrote on Karl Wolf’s Night Life album was nominated at the 2011 Juno Awards for Best R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.
Aside from being a talented songwriter, Lukay is, without a doubt, a great singer and performer. In 2009, Lukay was the special guest at Sky Is The Limit fashion show by EDNP Clothing show where DRAKE was the special guest in 2008. In December 2009, Lukay was the opening act for superstar R&B singer TREY SONGZ at Montreal’s Time Supper Club. On August 3, 2010, Lukay appeared on the show “Univers” on MusiquePlus for both an interview and live performance. Most recently on June 7, 2012 at Olympia Theatre of Montreal, Lukay was the opening artist for the legendary multiple GRAMMY Award winning group BOYZ II MEN.
THE RISE OF HIS ARTIST CAREER
A year later in July 2011, Lukay’s first official single “I’m In Love With Music” was released. With his vibrant performances at Ivy Night Club, Light Ultra Club, Rhythm Nation, Olympia Theatre of Montreal & others, Lukay stole the hearts of his “Music Lovers” public who was doing nothing but singing “I’m In Love With Music” along with him. In May 2012, Lukay was nominated in 3 categories at the Montreal Hip-Hop Awards and won the award for Best R&B Artist Anglophone of the Year. Lukay’s success is due to great talent, determination, perseverance and work ethic as well as his management team who is behind this star every step of the way. Lukay’s first official single was a great success and he is now more than ready to go beyond boundaries to bring his music to the next level.
